What is organic cotton?

Organic cotton is produced without the use of synthetic substances. Cotton grown on land free from chemicals for three years can be certified as organic. Even organic cotton can be grown in an unsustainable manner, often requiring large amounts of irrigated water to produce multiple crops each season. Our cotton is grown on land that produces a single crop a season and relies exclusively on rain water.

Where do you source your material from?

The cotton in our current range is sourced from India, one of the largest global suppliers of organic cotton. Our cotton comes from Gujarat and Odisha. The farmers that provide cotton for this project operate on a small scale with farms sizing less than 10 acres.

How do you ensure your cotton is organic?

Our cotton suppliers are independently certified and provide transaction certificates to authenticate the product as organic.

Are your shirts ethically made?

Yes – we ensure every stage of our supply chain adheres to our ethical standards. Our manufacturing facility was originally set up as an NGO project over 20years ago to provide employment opportunities for disadvantaged women. Limited funding resulted in the project transitioning to a business in 2012 which continues to provide job opportunities for urban women. Our factory is certified Fairtrade providing fair wages, safe working conditions as well as healthcare and educational funding for employees.

How do you know who makes your products?

We work with a small production facility and have personally met with all the people that are involved in the process. Our unit is different to most with one person working on a single product. This enables us to identify who stitched your garment which enables you to read the hangtag and work out who made your garment.

Where are your belts made?

Our belts are made in a leather manufactory in a small town near Hamburg in Germany.

What does vegetable tanned mean?

Vegetable tanning is a traditional way of tanning leather using natural substances found in trees and vegetables.  No toxic substances such as azo-dyes, nickel PCP or chrome VI are used in the process, making it highly tolerable for those who suffer from metal related allergies.
